Course Learning Outcome #1

“Acknowledge your and others’ range of linguistic differences as resources, and draw on those resources to develop rhetorical sensibility”

One of the key aspects of working in the engineering field is that you must learn to collaborate with other individuals because there will be various situations in which you’ll have to work with a team.

At the start of the semester, we were all assigned to our own group. There was about 4 people per team and throughout the semester we worked together on small assignments. However, the first and only major assignment we got was the engineering proposal. This was a great way to experience the diversity and cooperativeness that one would experience in a future engineering profession.

We all had our own strengths and weaknesses. We assigned each other to certain sections of the engineering proposal based off who had more knowledge in that area. For example, Hyemin Shin, the computer scientist, was more familiar with coding and software development, therefore she assisted in provided all the information involved with that area. Zameer Yusuff and I, as the mechanical engineers, worked together on the architecture design. After we finished each section, we would inform one another of its completion so that the other team members can review it for any mistakes. Through this process we utilized each others “linguistic differences,” as well as, outside knowledge, to develop a well-written engineering proposal.

The following images display Hyemin Shin’s contribution(Figure 1) and Zameer Yusuff and I’s contribution(Figure 2)
