Following the audience, the purpose is why you’re writing this piece, what you hope to gain from your audience. You also have to make it clear what the purpose of your writing is, if your audience doesn’t understand the purpose, then they’ll have no clue what to do with your paper. In each assignment within this course, the purpose was made clear.

With the memo, the purpose was to introduce the problem that students are having with the admissions office.

With the technical description, the purpose was to inform the audience of how to use the RYOBI 18V One+ Cordless Drill, as well as, the inner and outer parts its composed of, and where it originated from.

With the lab report, the purpose was to inform the audience about an experiment being conducted and its results for using heat to rejuvenate retired power cables.

Lastly, as displayed in figure 1, the purpose of the engineering proposal was to request funding and access to a test site from the board of Mendocino County in order to utilize drones to restore lost vegetation after wildfires.
