Course Learning Outcome #6

“Formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing”

While composing each assignment, one of the rhetorical elements we took into consideration is our stance on the matter. For most of the major assignments, my stance was neutral, due to the fact that as an engineering major, my purpose was more to inform or persuade than to voice my opinion. However, in one of the very first assignments, the memo, I discussed an issue residing within the admissions office at the City College of New York(Figure 1). My stance was clear, as provided in my reflection that followed the memo, “many students have time sensitive questions or needs and it’s not justified for the office of admissions to be so delayed with their responses. Students should be able to rely on their colleges to provide assistance when there’s a problem that arises.” I articulated my stance within my memo by providing a brief insight into this issue and how it can be resolved to benefit the students.
