A lab report is written to communicate the process taken during a laboratory experiment and its results.
Requirements of a Lab Report:
- Title
- Should be able draw the audience’s attention and interest
- Demonstrates what the lab report will be about
- Abstract
- Provides a brief summary of the report
- Introduction
- Discusses the hypothesis
- Discusses previous research that correlates with the study and why it differs from the research that was conducted during the study
- Introduces unfamiliar terms or concepts that will be utilized throughout the report
- Materials and Methods
- Discusses in detail the approach or process that was taken during the experiment
- Lists the materials that were used in the experiment
- Results
- Includes graphs and tables to back up the information being discussed
- Presents the findings from the study
- Discussion
- An analysis of the results
- Provide whether the previous hypothesis was correct or not
- Conclusion
- Provides a summary of the key components that were addressed in the report
- References
- Lists the sources in APA style
